This dps is a mixture of conventions that are adhered too and those that are challenged. It has a large headline which is located across the top of the left page, this is great for the reader as it is very contrasting from the dark background. The white font is in a country style and the letters are of an unequal size and shape. This suggests that things are changing and that things are not always stable. Perhaps this reflects the changes in the music industry or perhaps the changes they have seen as they have got older.
The dps has a large image which is the whole background, this is a wide two shot. Their costume is old fashioned and casual. But it is worn by a younger artist and this helps the audience to relate to them. They have a clear star image and are not stereotypical. The target audience of this in 20-30 and this image will appeal to them.

The language and register is interesting. there is slang in the headline and this appeals to a more informal audience and their informal approach to music. They use "beat up" materials to make music and this is intriguing. There are rhetorical questions that also include elements of mild bad language
"How the hell..." once again developing an informal register and approach. The use of the two cans in the image links to the idea of using old and worn out items as this was an old form of communication. This develops the idea that they are communicating their music in an unusual way. Although the register is formal as it is in this domain [magazine article] it still conveys a friendly approach through the word choices made.
